Once each year, remember to replace the battery that powers very basic, but essential functions when your robot is not powered-up. This simple and inexpensive maintenance activity will spare you quite a bit of inconvenience.
Every Fall, around the end of Daylight Savings Time, many local fire companies post a reminder for people to change the battery in each smoke detector in their home. Users of robotic blast systems might do well to use that as a reminder to do the same for your robot. Better yet, write it on your maintenance calendar, so it’s not forgotten.
Your robot has a small battery, located either on the arm itself or in the robot controller, that supplies a very small amount of electric current to the central processor any time it is disconnected from the main power source. If this battery is allowed to die, the robot will lose its mastering and require calibration before it can be used again.
A dead battery will not jeopardize any of your motion programs or memory associated with higher functions of the robot, which are stored deeper in the central processor.
The back-up power battery for your robot is a common type you can find at any market or hardware store they are “C” batteries – no different from the ones needed for a child’s toy or a flashlight.
One thing to know is that the battery that serves as the back-up power supply for robot memory must be replaced when the main electric source is connected and the robot is powered-up. This ensures there is no interruption of power during the simple change-out procedure.
