An impressive group of students from the New Visions Engineering program visited Guyson on November 26, 2013, for a window on the role of engineers in the custom-built machinery business.
After a discussion led by Guyson Corporation’s Director of Engineering, Mark Butler, the thirteen scholars toured the testing laboratory to review a robotic blasting application and saw the activity in the electrical panel shop, then went to the final assembly area to see a demonstration of a nearly-finished robotic grit-blast system for processing industrial gas turbine components.
The touring group then had a look at each of the other automated and robotic blast machines that were on the factory floor, getting an explanation of how they operate, what they were designed to do and how they are made.
Offered for high school seniors who plan to major in an engineering discipline, New Visions Engineering is one of the Career and Technical Education programs of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Washington, Saratoga, Warren, Hamilton and Essex Counties in Northeastern New York State.
While visits to area manufacturers and technology companies are a popular activity for the teens to gain additional exposure to engineering, they also take Advanced Placement courses in Physics and Calculus.
