Have you ever left your favorite tool outside or in a musty basement? Well if you have then your tools have become rusty and corroded. A great way to bring these tools back to life is by using Guyson Britebead. Guyson Britebead is a media that can be used in all kinds of blasting equipment; it is chromium, nickel stainless steel shot that is great for cleaning and restoration. For this blog I had a tool kit that was left outside and heavily coated in rust. For this restoration I loaded 50 pounds of Britebead 4 into a Guyson Model 4 suction cabinet. The parts were blasted at 60 PSI with a 4-6 inch offset using a Guyson Model 900 suction gun. The Guyson Britebead removed the rust very easily, and left the surface of the parts smooth and rust free. After the parts were blasted they were blown off and cleaned. Next the parts were primed and painted. Figures 1- 3 show the parts in the various steps of the restoration. I painted the parts to prevent rust if they were left out again, however depending on the parts some may clean up and not need paint. This is just one of the great ways Guyson Britebead can be used.
